Cappiello Promotions Launch First of Seven Fight Series on CN8 TV
Ian Gardner, (15-1, 7 KOs) fighting out of Brockton, MA , will look to extend his
winning streak to 14 since his only loss as a professional.
The 22 year old
Gardner will be fighting former USBA and
two-time WBO World Champion Manning "The Spoiler" Galloway, 58-17 (13) in the main event at The Roxy in Boston on April 9th.
According to Promoter Richie Cappiello, Gardner's original opponent Antoine
Barret has pulled out citing that he has insufficient time to get ready for the
fight.
Galloway, 43, has
been active, fighting four times in the last 15 months. He lost a controversial
majority decision to Troy Rowland on Jan 23rd in Rowland's hometown. "Manning Galloway has assured me that he has been in the gym and he is
ready to fight," said Cappiello. "He is southpaw as is Ian, and it's going to be
a war.
The 22 year old
Gardner will be fighting Antoine Barrett, (13-7, 7KOs), of Patterson, NJ in the 10
round main event on April 9th at the Roxy in Boston.
Gardner, who last fought on December 4th scoring an eight round unanimous decision victory over Joshua Onyango, is ecstatic to be headlining for the first time in his adopted home of Massachusetts.
"I am excited to get back in the ring after a little bit of a layoff. I've had a couple of bad breaks with fights that have fallen through but I am as ready as ever," remarked Gardner. "This is going to be a good fight for me to be able to display my whole arsenal but I expect Barrett to come to win so I'm not taking him lightly."
The night's co-feature could very well provide the most excitement, as Billy "The Kid" Mofford, (7-1, 2 KOs) takes on local rival Wilfredo "Pepe" Muniz, (11-4, 3 KOs) in an eight round grudge match for the Massachusetts Cruiserweight Title. The 29 year old Mofford doesn't expect Muniz to take him the distance. "Pepe's chin is questionable and I don't expect him to be able to withstand the constant pressure I will put on him. I predict that I will stop him early."
Muniz, 34, says this is going to be the fight that will get his career back on track. "I am going to win this fight whether I have to go eight rounds or not. He hasn't been through what I have been through," said Muniz. "I have been in with the much better competition and on April 9th it will show."
Promoter Richie Cappiello is excited to have Fight Night USA after two successful years of Fight Night New England. "This is going to be an exciting night of fights with two very competitive fights on top. We are looking for big things from Ian Gardner in 2004 as he has an ESPN bout on the horizon if he can win on April 9th. Barrett is a good solid fighter who will test him."
"The Mofford/Muniz fight is gonna be a highly entertaining battle. It's a pick'em fight with neither fighter particularly liking the other. Whoever is in better shape and wants it more will be victorious."
Cappiello says 2004 will feature even more competitive fights and a lot of new faces, one of which will be Dorchester, MA heavyweight James Clancy, 2-0, who is a former five-time Irish National Champion. He compiled a record of 80-5 as an amateur and will be facing trial horse Danny Sheehan. Despite a losing record Sheehan, 10-24, has been in with some very good fighters and will provide a stiff test for Clancy.
The Show will be televised via tape delay Saturday April 17th at 5 pm. For tickets contact Jenna at 1-888-491-2900. (Visa and Mastercard accepted).
