JOE CALZAGHE: A DECADE OF DOMINANCE!

Joe Calzaghe and his dad holding the beautiful glass award...

THIS week has obviously been very special for me, last Friday marking the ten-year anniversary since I beat Chris Eubank to become the WBO super middleweight champion of the world, a title I have retained to this day.

To mark the occasion Frank Warren my promoter invited the press to a presentation of a lovely memento (worryingly with my track record, it's made of glass!).

Frank picked an especially glamorous venue to mark the fantastic milestone in my career, the bloody gym I spend every day of my life in!

In all seriousness, the gym was a fitting place to do it, though it is probably the dirtiest and smelliest place Frank has ever been!

A lot of my stablemates were there yesterday, it's great being in such nice company after spending most of my ten years as champion training in solitude, like a monk!

To mark the ten-year anniversary I'd like to give my thoughts on each and every title fight in my career, it brings back some great memories.

1. October 1997, Chris Eubank, Sheffield, won points, 12 rounds: Maybe I didn't get the credit I deserved for this, the British press prefer to focus on a gallant loser. He had loads of experience and I put him on the floor, the verdict is the proudest moment of my life.

2. January 1998, Branko Sobot, Cardiff, won TKO, 3 rounds: My homecoming, I had a great reception and took care of business in three easy rounds.

3. March 1998, Juan Jimenez, Cardiff, won TKO, 10 rounds: My second defence, a mandatory defence and I stopped him which Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn couldn't do.

4. February 1999, Robin Reid, Cardiff, won points, 12 rounds: Injury problems kept me out of the ring for nearly a year and it showed here, a lot of ring rust.

5. June 1999, Rick Thornberry, Cardiff, won points, 12 rounds: Won every round, decent performance.

6. January 2000, David Starrie, Manchester, won points 12 rounds: One of the low points, injury problems again and he was awkward, one of my worst fights. Rubbish!

7. August 2000, Omar Sheika, London, won TKO 5 rounds: One of the sweetest wins, a lot of people fancied Sheika and I put in a great performance against a man who had just beaten Glen Johnson who is still one of the best light heavyweights in the world today 8. December 2000, Richie Woodhall, Sheffield, won TKO 10 rounds: Richie is a great mate of mine, a competitive fight but a bittersweet night because it was the night Paul Ingle got very badly hurt.

9. April 2001, Mario Veit, Cardiff, won TKO 1 round: Another very great night for me, Veit was unbeaten in 31 fights and I took him out in the first round in a fight at home. Perfect.

10. October 2001, Will McIntyre, Copenhagen, won TKO 4 rounds: Very routine defence, interesting to fight in Denmark, but I was in a different class to this guy.

11. April 2002, Charles Brewer, Cardiff, won points 12 rounds: One of the top fights of my life, toe to toe for 12 rounds and it was a proud moment to win this one 12. August 2002, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Cardiff, won points 12 rounds: Sub standard performance with another hand injury, won every round at Cardiff Castle but I didn't feel satisfied.

13. December 2002, Tocker Pudwell, Newcastle, won TKO 2 rounds: Nice easy payday! He was well ranked but it was one of the easiest fights I have had.

14. June 2003, Byron Mitchell, Cardiff, won TKO 2 rounds: A very proud night in my career, it was the first time in my life I ever got put on the floor and I came roaring back like a champion, I felt like Rocky that night.

15. February 2004, Mger Mkrtchian, Cardiff, won TKO 7 rounds: A dangerous customer, very strong Armenian and I took care of him, I felt really good that night.

16. October 2004, Kabary Salem, Edinburgh, won points 12 rounds: A disappointing fight, I had a lot of personal problems with my divorce and it showed when I got dropped for the second time in my career.

17. May 2005, Mario Veit, Germany, won TKO 6 rounds: Veit back for a second shot and obviously being in his back yard made life a lot harder. I lifted my game and was excellent, a proud night.

18. September 2005, Evans Ashira, Cardiff, won points 12 rounds: Small, awkward African guy with a hard head. I broke my hand in the third round and had to beat him with one hand, it was a good job he couldn't fight!

19. March 2006, Jeff Lacy, Manchester, won points 12 rounds: What can I say? The fight that changed my life, a tremendous performance that I will never forget.

20. October 2006, Sakio Bika, Manchester, won points 12 rounds: A hangover fight, I didn't have respect for him and it showed, a messy and frustrating night.

21. April 2007, Peter Manfredo Jnr, Cardiff, won TKO 3 rounds: An amazing night at the Millennium Stadium, the reaction I got from my home crowd will stay with me forever. Unfortunately Manfredo was a TV fighter and it showed. The TV companies wanted Manfredo and paid good money for it. I remember him wincing like a girl when I caught him with a body shot and sadly for him he did all his talking after the fight was over. He was a big disappointment.

22. November 3, 2007, Mikkel Kessler, Cardiff...

The next chapter, I simply can't wait.
