Headlining as the main event on Tuesday Night Fights the former IBF champion Julio Diaz earned a very easy 1st round knockout victory against Marco Angel Perez. In a sport that does not forgive many mistakes, each opening, and opportunity to take advantage of any errors by your opponent are crucial. In this fight, Diaz didn’t have to wait long for his opponent to make a mistake. From the onset Perez came in throwing wide punches while leaning in and this gave Diaz the perfect opportunity to throw a counter right uppercut that ended the fight a mere 66 seconds after it began. After hitting the canvas, Perez stumbled to his feet barely beating the count and after a careful look the referee correctly concluded that he was in no condition to continue the fight. The stoppage came at 1:04 in round #1. The same night in an action packed two round battle, Delvin Rodriguez was able to come away with a second round knockout victory over Christopher Henry. Rodriguez suffered a knockdown early in the fight after Henry, the more experienced of the two boxers, caught him with a beautiful counter left hook. Rodriguez was able to beat the count but looked unsteady on his feet and very off balance. Henry, trying to take advantage of this early knockdown, came after Rodriguez with a reckless abandon, which caused him to walk into a left hook that dropped him to the canvas only moments after his own knockdown. Henry beat the count only to go down again seconds later from a Rodriguez right hand that caught him flush on the temple. In the next round Henry’s out of control, reckless style left him open for another right hand that put him down once more, and shortly after beating the count a body shot followed by a left hook upstairs placed Henry on the canvas for the fourth and final time. After the fourth knockdown, referee Pat Russell wisely decided to stop the fight, sparing Henry from further punishment. The knockout came at 44 seconds of the fourth round, giving Rodriguez a dramatic KO victory. Also in a six rounder, the undefeated Larry Gonzales won an easy unanimous decision (59-54, 59-54, and 60-53) victory over Carlos Cisneros. Gonzales easily out-boxed his less skilled opponent while also getting a knockdown in the fourth round, which only further solidified his dominance in the fight. Gonzales retained his perfect record, which now stands at 8-0 with 2 wins by knockout. 6-7-2005
