"WHERE IS THE RESPECT FOR BERNARD HOPKINS?"

By PimpOPgh

Over the past month or so, I have seen some disturbing images. Booing fans, flags being thrown, and all around disrespect. Do you see where I'm going, folks?

Although I am a Trinidad fan, I must say that Bernard Hopkins has been unfairly subjected to criticism. Ok fight fans, answer me a question, who started waving flags in the first place? Who booed the United States National Anthem at the Trinidad - Joppy fight? Yeah, you all know who, the Puerto Rican crowd.

Although waving a flag is known as a symbol of pride, in the instances where Bernard allegedly threw the Puerto Rican flag to the ground the flag was used as a pure taunt. Everyone knows that if you try to take Bernard's heart, he is going to attempt to take yours back, so maybe people should calm down.

The biggest disgrace next to the booing of our National Anthem, was the conference held in San Juan. Ponder this, you're an African-American male, (Bernard Hopkins), whose promoter is also African American, (Don King). Your promoter, who as far as you know, is still African-American, waves a flag in your face and refers to himself and the fans in San Juan as "We Puerto Ricans." Are you freakin' kidding me? Come on people, anyone in America should have been just as offended as Bernard was that Don King did not refer to himself as American.

Just as Puerto Ricans, Americans should be proud as hell of their country. We live in the greatest land on Earth appropriately called, "THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY." This land is the land that fullfilled Don King and Tito's dream, so maybe, just maybe, they should understand that and respect America also.

This is not to say that I agree with throwing the Puerto Rican flag to the ground. Alhtough I can see where his anger was coming from, I thought it was a poor way for a champion to dispaly class.

I am not writing this to pull the race card. I believe that everyone in this world is born equal and should be given the same opportunities as others. Listen folks, there are alway's two sides to every story. I just find it ironic that the same people who booed our National Anthem call Bernard Hopkins a disgrace!
