IS SHANE READY?...
by Jim Amato
Shane has returned to 147 pounds where he feels he is at his
best. He has won two straight recently and has announced that he is
ready for the elite welterweights, be it Zab Judah or Antonio Margarito.
Is he really ready? Has he done enough to deserve a title shot?
THE 'PARADE OF CHAMPIONS' PROVIDES A
FULL RANGE OF DRAMA... by Jocelyn Saurini @ringside
HBO

September 17th gave the full range of outcomes: tragedy, a new champion

greatness.
BARRERA - PEDEN PPV: QUOTES OF THE NIGHT... by Chris Robinson
Last night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas we witnessed three
meaningful bouts as Marco Antonio Barrera outclassed Australia’s
Robbie Peden, ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley outworked Jose Luis Cruz over
ten, and Jesus Chavez out slugged Levander Johnson for an 11th
round TKO. The HBO team of Jim Lampley, Emmanuel Steward, and Larry Merchant
served as the blow by blow crew. Below are some of the finer quotes
of the night.
BARRERA UNIFIES!... by Kenny Perrault
HBO PPV offered a triple header fight card tonight featuring WBC
super featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera against IBF
champion Robbie Peden. It did not take long to figure out that on
this evening, Barrera was the better man.
BARRERA SHOWS HIS CLASS WITH DECISION
WIN OVER PEDEN... by Chris Robinson Moments ago at the MGM Grand
in Las Vegas, ‘The Baby Faced Assassin’ Marco Antonio Barrera
unified the WBC and IBF Jr. Lightweight belts with a dominant
decision over Australia’s Robbie Peden. Scorecards read 118-108
twice and 118-109 for Barrera, who ups his record to 61-4 (42 KO’s)
while Peden drops to 25-3 (14 KO’s).
PEDEN vs BARRERA: DO YOU BELIEVE IN UNDERDOGS?...
by Jocelyn
Saurini
...Still, Peden smiled through the press conference...
Maybe it’s because Peden likes being the underdog. It motivates
him. He’s had upsets in his career such as his eight round defeat
of Nate Campbell. But Peden has never won against an opponent the
caliber of Barrera, and it’s very possible that, even with his work
ethic and power punches, the Vegas odds makers are right and Peden
will simply be outclassed in an environment that is going to be
rocking with Mexican Barrera fans.
BIRDS OF A FEATHER: BARRERA AND PEDEN DUKE IT OUT THIS
SATURDAY...
by Chris Robinson
Coming on the heels of Manny Pacquiao’s big win over Hector
Velazquez and Erik Morales’ shocking loss to Zahir Raheem, this
fight features two more of the Jr. Lightweight division’s best going
at it. Barrera is the WBC Champion, Peden is the IBF king, and it
should serve as a great clash of styles for all to see.
LEVANDER JOHNSON vs JESUS CHAVEZ ADDED TO SEPTEMBER 17
PARADE OF CHAMPIONS
Golden Boy Promotions announces the addition of an IBF lightweight title bout
between champion Levander Johnson and
Jesus “The Matador” Chavez.
The September 17 Parade of Champions
fight card takes place at MGM Grand in Las Vegas and will be
broadcast live on HBO Pay-Per-View.
'SUGAR' SHANE MOSLEY: A TRUE
PROFESSIONAL IN AND OUT OF THE RING... by Jeff Mayweather
With the losses to Forrest, and subsequent losses to Winky Wright in
2004, Shane’s confidence has seemed to take a hit. And even though
most fighters will deny it, mentally you are never the same once you
lose in such fashion. Shane did fight better in the rematch with
Wright, but he just doesn’t seem to be the same guy in there
anymore.
