BELL WINS QUESTIONABLE VERDICT OVER BROWN By Jim Amato |

All I can
say is unbelievable. O'Neil Bell is the new I.B.F. cruiserweight
champion by virtue of a gift decision over Dale Brown. Check out
this scoring...115-113, 116-112 and an almost ridiculous score
of 117-111 all for O'Neil Bell.
I was in agreement with guest color commentator and former world champion Kevin Kelley who scored it 116-112 for Dale Brown. I had favored Bell going in but I expected Brown to put up a good fight. Dale exceeded my expectations. He started fast and he almost got Bell out of there in the third round but Bell is no chump. He is a tough and game fighter and he gutted it out. Bell tried to come back and yes he had his moments. He cut Brown and roughed him up at times but he could never break Dale's will. Brown closed well and I was absolutely shocked when the scores were read. Bell was gracious enough to say he would give Brown a return somewhere down the road. In his post fight interview Brown was a class act. This was a good action fight, very worthy of a rematch being held in say, Las Vegas where the state of Nevada has a VERY strong commission that may discourage questionable scoring. No matter what, Bell and Brown need to go at it again. 5-20-2005
