An Exclusive Interview

By Saratogamist

BRC: Rosendo, congratulations on your win. It was a hard fought battle, did Siriwat surprise you with his stamina and durability?

RA: I expected a hard fight, Siriwat is a former world champion who had defended his title four times. He is a good fighter, I couldn't underestimate him. I knew that I was going to do battle with a talented young man who wanted to take the title that God has given me, with great sacrifice. But, I praise God, who gave me the strength and the wisdom to fight my kind of fight and win.

BRC: Your conditioning was very impressive. How do you prepare for a fight of this magnitude?

RA: First, I prepare spiritually. I pray a lot, I ask God to give me strength so that I can be successful. I have absolute faith in God and that's what allows me to move mountains, my faith. I knew that God was going to be with me on this day; and the support of my fans helped me too. The Nicaraguans that live here in Miami and came out to see me, that was a motivation factor, too. I wanted to show them that I was well prepared, I wanted to give the best of me. It's no easy task, training everyday, running in the mornings, train in the afternoons and sometimes I even run at night too, it's hard but it's something I love to do. I've been doing it with love for fifteen years and I am enjoying the success that stems from my hard work.

BRC: Is Ricardo "Finito" Lopez in your very near future?

RA: We are going to negotiate with him soon. There is going to be a unification tournament, which will involve four champions. The WBC champion from Korea, Yosam Choi would fight IBF champion Ricardo Lopez and I would fight WBO champion Nelson Dieppa.

BRC: What is your opinion of Trinidad trainee Nelson Dieppa?

RA: Well, if he is a champion, he has to be a good fighter. I never underestimate any opponent. I believe that any man inside the ring can be dangerous; one would have to be careful, in particular of those fighters who are not too well known.

BRC: Did Siriwat ever hurt you?

RA: Well, in the first few rounds he surprised me. He came at me with bad intentions but I like that because when I get hit, it's like I wake up and I return three punches for every one that is thrown at me. He hits me once, I hit him three times, because I don't like to stay hit.(laughing)

BRC: You looked sensational, and your fans came out to give you love and support tonight. What would you like to say to them?

RA: I want to tell them that I love them a lot, and although I don't know them individually I know they are with me, they are my fans, they follow my career and that means a lot to me. To be loved by the fans, to get along with the media and with everybody, to be at peace with God is the greatest thing, it's just magnificent.

I would also like to tell them that I am going to always be their humble champion, and if at any time they see me and want to take a picture with me, I will always be at their disposal.

BRC: That's a beautiful sentiment, Rosendo. I'm sure your fans are very proud of you and will love your message. Thank you very much, and hope to talk again soon, champ.

RA: It has been my pleasure.
