SEARCHING FOR A PAYDAY

By Punchy

After reading an article pertaining to Mr. Joel Casamayor and his braggadocios remarks about what he would do to various fighters within his weight class and the weight class above him, Punchy came to the conclusion that Casamayor couldn't have been serious and anyone that has any boxing knowledge wouldn't take him seriously about his claims of beating Floyd Mayweather Jr, José Luis Castillo or even Stevie Forbes or Jesús Chavez.

He may have been an Olympic star for his native country Cuba, but here in the United States as a professional he's no one. In his most defining fight he came up short and beyond that effort, the only real name of any stature on his record is that of worn out-and-should-be-retired Robert "Grandpa" Garcia.

In his fight with Casamayor Garcia turned into an old man right before our eyes as he totally dominated Casamayor early on. However, as the fight progressed he aged with each round. He was game but also a fraction of the fighter he once was as IBF Jr. lightweight champion. Let's not forget that Garcia had just comeback from being knocked out and had no business even being in a title fight but for the Goossens he became a sacrificial lamb, as both fighters were under the same promotional umbrella.

Casamayor claimed that Floyd Mayweather was scared to fight him as a replacement when in fact, it was HBO who felt he wasn't worthy enough of giving Mayweather a challenge to even give him the payday that he's searching for. He spoke of Jesús Chavez although he's fought better than Casamayor in his career. He really has beaten no one and the amateurs no longer count.

If you were as good as you claim to be, Joel, HBO would have rushed to sign you, being that you are a former Olympic Gold Medalist and all. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. may have his problems outside of the ring, but HBO signed him because he is one of the best fighters in the world and he has proven it time and time again. Prove yourself as something more than just a fading Amateur Star. You have not taken America by storm.

Mayweather, Jr. has beaten Jesús Chavez (35-1-0), Carlos Hernández (33-2-1), Diego Corrales (33-0-0), Angel Manfredy (25-2-1), Genaro Hernandez (38-1-); these are the impressive stats on Floyd's resume and not 'Grandpa' García. Why not begin your quest with someone in your weight class who also has Mayweather ties? I'm referring to Stevie Forbes who, like Floyd Jr. is also a Roger Mayweather trainee.

You haven't giving anyone a reason to cry out fight Joel Casamayor, other than your promoters, and that's because just like you they are in search of a payday.
