ESPN2 FNF REPORT FROM THE MGM GRAND IN LAS VEGAS

By Kenny Perrault, ringside

The MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada hosted ESPN2 Friday Night Fights. The house wasn't exactly packed tonight when Jr. Featherweight Heriberto Ruiz took on Christobal Cruz in a ten round lackluster fight. Ruiz scored the sole knockdown in the tenth round and in the end the judges saw the fight all in favor of Ruiz 98-91, 97-92, 99-90.

Anthony "The Messenger" Thompson, (13-0, 10 KOs), squared off against Sammy Sparkman. Thompson, who seemed content at times to cover up and let Sparkman hit him, landed the cleaner and sharper punches. "The Messenger" cut his opponent over the left eye in the third and connected a big left hook to the side of Sparkman's head in round 4 which sent him to the canvas for the ten count.

Larry Mosley fought a tougher than expected Adan Casillas in a scheduled eight rounder in the welterweight division. Mosley was put down in the first round by Casillas who did land hard shots early in the fight but Mosley would soon pick up the pace landing crisp shots to the body and head and finally dropping Casillas twice in the fifth with body shots. Casillas would get up to only be stopped for good in 2:05 of the eighth round.
