LET'S GIVE LENNOX HIS DUES

Lewis set the tone early. The first round being your normal feeling out round, but after the second round it was all Lennox as he dissected Tyson with vicious uppercuts and devastating right hands that consistently found their mark which was Tyson's head. Tyson seemed befuddled, completely confused, as he appeared to try his best to imitate the Tyson the world once knew and all the fighters in the Heavyweight division once seemed to fear; as he would bob and weave his head from side to side looking to land that devastating hook or vicious uppercut. This time around it was merely an act.
Tyson was nothing more than a mere shell of himself, who tricked the buying public and those fans who still held on to the Tyson mystique were sadly mistaken and misled, by his outrageous antics in the pre-fight hype. I really hate to think what Tyson would have said had he won the fight. He was finally reduced to complete humility. Just as he said he was selling the fight with his antics I think that, once again he conned the public by appearing to be so gracious and humble in defeat.
Most people act as though they forgot, or it is so far removed from their minds that Mike Tyson -even in his prime- when he truly appeared to be "Iron," did not want to fight Lennox Lewis? Lewis was paid Four Million Dollars $$ to step aside so that Mike could fight a lesser equipped opponent and keep his mystique intact.
Tyson will still remain in the hearts of true Mike Tyson fans as the best Heavyweight of his epoch and they will find an excuse to dispel Lewis' accomplishment. I think that finally it's time, as true fight fans, no matter who your favorite fighter may be to give Lennox Lewis all the accolades he deserves.
Lewis is the best Heavyweight in his era, an era which includes Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield and Riddick Bowe. He fought and beat all who were willing to fight him, with the exception of Riddick Bowe, who threw one version of the belts in the trash rather than fight Lewis when he was the reigning "Undisputed" Heavyweight Champion of the World. Nevertheless, Lewis still has a monumental victory over Bowe; he stopped Bowe in the 1984 Olympic Games to capture the gold medal, so maybe Bowe didn't want to face the music again as a pro. Since Lennox got that belt out of the trash he has defeated everyone put in front of him, even though those who hold victories over him were later defeated in rematches.
Lewis might not be animated like Mike Tyson, he might not be the most courageous like Evander Holyfield and maybe he just happens not to be American like Riddick Bowe
but he is the best Heavyweight in his era.
Check his record and you will find all the above mentioned on his ledger in the
"defeat" column, at one level or another. Finally, a 'Big Up" to Lennox Lewis!
6-2002
On Saturday night, June 8, 2002, at the Pyramid in Memphis Tennessee, I think Mr. Lennox Lewis showed the entire world that, finally, he is worthy of all the respect that a true Heavyweight Champion deserves as he totally destroyed "Iron" Mike Tyson.
By the time Lewis was done with 'Iron' Mike Tyson he was nothing more than sheet metal.
