It seems here that HBO Boxing has itself a teeny dilemma over what to do next with the past lightweight/welter champion Shane Mosley... but no problems when it comes to WBO welter champ Antonio Margarito after an explosive two-fisted TKO finish of Andrew "Six-Heads" Lewis at 2:31 of round two.
In a meeting that was expected to be one of them proverbial barn-burner, pier-sixers that brings the paying clientele out of the seats, it sure didn’t disappoint - even though it closed suddenly, following an eye-catching barrage of booming shots by the winning Margarito.
The opening candle found Lewis out of the gate the faster of the two … a big round for "Six-Heads" as he swarmed over Margarito while scoring with both hands that pretty much qualified as "power punches."
Major problem in the confidence builder department for Lewis, was when along with the bell ending the stanza, there was Antonio smiling with appreciation over it all.
And you just knew it would be only a matter of time that the Lewis chin would finally be tested, and that it was, in that crushing round two - and now the powers that be will surely go to work in hopes of bringing another natural welter title duel … and Margarito-Mayorga is its name.
No question the word will get around for it … and for anyone that buys that ol’ styles-makes-fites cliché we’re talking standing room only material.
And the Mosley-Marquez disaster you ask? Sorry, folks … them by design, or otherwise (joke, son) head-butting eyecutting prior to round four stoppages do nothing for this yesteryear fite fan … once upon a time it was "tough break, kiddo, but remember there’s always tomorrow." Which of course would translate to TKO 3 for Mosley.
The dilemma you ask … well, no knock that Shane went the Marquez route to return to action with - guy was not a big puncher and not the usual tricky southpaw style - and the good chin as well was a positive for Mosley to showcase on with them quick hands etc … but not to be.
Poor choice in selecting a Marquez to return from a ring absence came through loud and clear from the start … was them port/starboard things with both gladiators entangled after each exchange much like my closet wire clothes hangers … just can’t look good against them southpaws.
So, as Shane does the mirror, mirror on the wall thing once again, he best be reminded were a reply possible, it surely would be somebody else … and a title belt at (Jr.) middle sure looks like one heckuva stretch at this time.
